DCP #4 Review
Cell Membrane:
It's a guard keeper of the cell. It protects the cell as well. It lets certain things in and out of the cell, only giving it what in needs. Golgi Body: Modifies and packages protein in the cell. Lysosomes: Have digestive enzymes that break down and recycle large molecules. Mitochondria: Converts energy from food into useable ATP (energy the cell can use). Selective Permeability: Only certain things go in and out of the cell. Difference Between Plant and Animal Cells: Plant cells have 2 organelles that animal cells don't which are a Cell Wall and Chloroplasts. Prokaryotes & Eukaryotes: - Similarities : *Both have DNA within them. *Both have a Cell Membrane. *Both have Cytoplasm. *Both have Ribosomes. - Differences : *Eukaryotes have a nucleus, prokaryotes don't. *Prokaryotes have DNA floating around while Eukaryotes have it within the nucleus. *Eukaryotes have membrane-bound organelles and Prokaryotes don't. Enzymes: Speed up the chemical reactions. DNA: Packaged in the Chromosomes within the Nucleus (Eukaryotic Cells). OR Floating around within the cell (Prokaryotic Cells). Cell Motility: This is achieved through the Cilia and/or Flagellum. STD Viruses: The most common STDs are Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), Genital Herpes, and Trichomoniasis. Prevent Pregnancy: The only way to be 100% sure you will not be pregnant is by staying abstinent and not having sex. Alcohol with Teens: *Teens 15 and older who drink alcohol are 7x likelier to have sex than those who don't drink. *Alcohol lowers inhibitions, resulting in poor judgement. *Alcohol can impair mental, social, and sexual development in young people. *Alcohol use is present in half to three-fourths of all date rapes among college students.
